Mangrove Field Trip

Students looking at the prop roots of a mangrove tree.

Growing at the intersection between land and sea, the mangrove forest is one of the most productive ecosystems on Earth. It provides us with food, products, protection and numerous other ecosystem services.

The mangrove forest experiences daily tidal movements, fluctuations in temperature, variations in water salinity and has soils that are unstable and low in oxygen.

Despite the harsh living conditions, the mangrove forest is teeming with live! A great diversity of plants and animals like birds, fishes, reptiles, mammals, crabs, snails, and other invertebrates live in it. These organisms have special and interesting adaptive features to deal with the extreme conditions in the mangrove forest.

You do not need to go overseas to experience this fascinating world where trees grow in salt water and fish walk on land! Just join us and be intrigued by Singapore's very own mangrove forest.

Field trips are conducted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve or Pasir Ris Park.

We have programmes for:

  • P6 Science (Adaptation)
  • S1 & 2 Science (Ecosystem)
  • Other levels (can be customised)
